Home Theater Design - It's A Matter Of Choice

J.D. Dean

Home theater design is only limited by imagination. In fact, if you were so inclined, any room of your house could be set up for home theater. Yes, even your bathroom! A television placed in the corner would be a cinch for someone with some handy man practicality.

The obvious draw back for many prospective home theater enthusiasts is budget. Once you've bought the TV, DVD, speakers and some extras it doesn't leave "too much change lying in the purse." But the beauty of home theater is that it's not done out of necessity but more out of want and desire.

Where To Set Up Your Home Theater

Before you think about home theater design you've got to decide on location. Have you got a room set aside or will you integrate it into an existing room. One of the advantages about living in the United States is in many areas, people virtually have a home within a home in the form of basements. Now not all basements are created equal and granted, in some areas they can seem damp and musty but they are great as potential home theater rooms.

I have a friend Alan in Atlanta, Georgia who admittedly was born with a hammer and drill in his hand but what this man has created in the basement of his home from scratch is nothing short of a work of art. He has created a home theater design "to die for..." a work of home theater art and the best thing, because he can "bang in a nail" and drill holes in a wall, it wasn't a costly exercise believe it or not. Now, not everyone has the ability to build and create like Alan but the point I want to make is, that home theater design for a real enthusiast comes from within. It's a want and a passion. So if you are sitting on top of an unused basement and you're a home theater "nut trying to get out," explore the possibility of establishing a set up underneath the home. Get a quote and find out how much it will cost. Remember, if it is within your budget, whatever renovation work is done will also add dollars to the value of your home.

Home Theater Design Basics

When you have selected your home theater location there are some things that need to be done. You need to check the acoustics of the room and make sure they are what you want or to take it further, check whether the room is soundproof. Remember, when your home theater room is "ready to go" there will more than likely be some serious sound emanating from it so you need to think of the neighbors. After this, it's a matter of selecting your equipment followed by the decor. A basic home theater comprises a TV and a DVD; everything else is extra so work within your budget. Stereo equipment, speakers, receivers and other components will eventually be part of your set up as cost allows and then, yes, home theater design wouldn't be complete without the right decor. But that's another story.
