Home Theater Installation In A Breeze!

J D Dean

What do you think about when you think home theater installation? Sure, if you are not handy technically you'll more than likely enlist the services of an expert to put all those wires and attachments in the right compartments but home theater installation is more than that.
It's planning your home theater room; where will you position the equipment; will the furniture blend in with the room...decisions, decisons! After all, you plan on spending quite a bit of time in this environment and you want to feel as comfortable as possible. Plus, the baseball season is just around the corner!

Let's Put Our Home Theater Installation Plan Into Action

1. Map out the room. You can use high technological equipment or if you are not comfortable with them, draw up a map. Be sure to include details such as windows and other objects in the room that may obstruct the sound.

2. Where and how would you like the wires to run? Along the wall is the best option unless you have wireless system. Always get more wire then you measured you would need – trust me; you will always need more for home theater installation or for any installation for that matter.

3. Organize the wires – color wise, just as the manual indicates. Lay them out so they will be easy to reach when you will have the room full of tools.

4. Take into consideration if you need to get/build stands or wall mounts for the speakers. Here you have to consider the space you are working with, if the stands will be in the way and can get knocked over or if you choose wall mounts, the weight of the speakers.

You are starting to realise how important home theater installation preparation can be. The last thing you want is to be rearranging things once everything is in place. Now, have you given strong consideration to where the power outlets are/should be placed?

- Due to the large amount of appliances present in today’s households, power outlets is another factor one most not neglect during home theatre installation planning.

- Home theatres pull a lot more power then the TV, PC or the stereo system. Most wall outlets usually have only two sockets, due to which you will need a power strip, available at any computer/electronics store. The power strips have a great advantage of preventing power drop outs which can seriously damage your equipment.

- Make sure that the power lines in your apartment will be able to handle the load and try to place all your home theatre installation to a single circuit breaker.

The beginning is where the home theater dream starts... can't believe I came up with that! Seriously, get it right from the start and you will be the envy among your circle of friends. Sure, the TV, DVD, speakers and projection unit are important but so is placement and organisation. Home theater installation shouldn't be a hassle at all.
