Installing Home Theater Systems - It's All In The PlanningJ D DeanInstalling home theater systems is a planning process. Before you lay your first wires or go out and buy your first piece of equipment, plan ahead and that means putting down om paper an outline of how you want you room set up.
Have you designated an area of your home which will become your video and sound showplace. This article is for those who want to create their special home cinema; a place where they can relax and become immersed in their favorite movie or sporting event. Installing Home Theater Systems - The Planning Process One mistake inexperience home theater enthusiasts make is to set up in an area where there is too much sunlight. Big mistake if you are planning to use a projection system. If it's the only option available to you then decide what type of drapes and curtains you will use. It's extra expense and that's why if you have an area darker than most in your house then consider making it the home cinema room. Basements are ideal! Wiring is vital. Once you decide where your TV, speakers and sound system are going to sit, make a plan for the wiring. Worst case scenario... having wiring going across the floor from one wall to the other; best to place them along the wall and out of harms way. If you are mounting your speakers, your wall mounts need to be strong enough to support them plus, you will want to place your speakers in direct proportion to where you plan to have your seating. More Planning A Home theater with all the "bells and whistles" is going to use up more power than your average room in the house. Will your power supply be able to handle the load? Ask a professional for advice but most homes will be able to handle the extra power. Power outlets...do you have enough? Again, very important to make sure you have more than you need. Believe me, you'll need them at some stage. Circuit boards and safety breakers are also necessary. Power boards with safety breakers in case of power surge and overload are desirable, particularly during thunderstorms. Installing Home Theater Systems - It's All In The Planning Once you have your room plan drawn up you can start to make the neccessary adjustments. Other things like sound proofing may be required if your walls aren't designed for such a set up. Home theater installation is all about the planning. Plan it right and you save yourself lots of frustration later on. |
