A new flat screen TV can certainly enhance your home cinema experience, but there are many factors that you must bear in mind to ensure that you get the maximum out of your new purchase. There are so many things to think about; from making sure you have the right type of cables to how you are going to mount your TV to get the best viewing angle. This short guide is designed to give you a few simple tips that should help you avoid the major headaches, leaving you free to enjoy high definition viewing in all its glory.
The first step is to make sure that your new TV is actually the right size in relation to the room. I know that a lot of people think that bigger means better, but this is not always the case. Certainly in the days of CRT TVs it was much more difficult to make a large screen, so therefore very large TVs were used as a status symbol. Nowadays technology means that large screens are much more common, so many people simply opt for the largest TV in the shop, which is fine if you have a huge house, but if you try squeezing a 60 inch TV into a normal sized room you will find that you can't sit far enough away to actually get an enjoyable view of the screen. A good rule of thumb to work off is that your minimum viewing distance should be about 1.5 times the width of the screen. Of course you don't have to adhere to this rule, but it's a good indication of what size TV your room can sensibly accommodate.
You should also think about the types of things you will be watching as this will have an affect on the type of audio system that you need. For instance, if you mainly watch documentaries or news shows then the standard TV speakers will probably be perfectly adequate. However, if you are mainly going to be watching movies you may want to invest in a surround sound system to really get that cinema experience. The size and location of your room will also affect the quality of the sound, so if you live next to a busy road you may decide to upgrade the speakers to get louder, clearer sounds. Just be sure not to have your TV too loud or you may annoy your neighbours or housemates!
Something else to bear in mind is the positioning of your TV within the room. Not only do you have to physically find someway of placing the TV, whether using the supplied stand or investing in a bracket to mount it to a wall, but you also have to think about where you will be sitting and how this will affect your view of the screen. The ideal position is for the TV to be at eye level when viewing, so adopt your normal viewing position and find a place that is comfortable for your eyes to focus on.
A final factor that is important is the type of connection you use. HDMI is generally seen as offering the best quality picture and sound, but if you are trying to marry up your new TV to older AV equipment that is not HDMI compatible you may have to use variety of other cables and connections. Once your TV is connected up, you should spend a few minutes ensuring that the colours are properly calibrated. After all, you've spent a decent amount of money on a large TV, so you want it to deliver the best possible picture, right?
By following these simple guidelines you should be able to get the very best out of your TV, no matter what size you end up buying. Happy viewing!

Do I need machine screws for LCD Mount?
I was going to order
http://www.onlybestrated.com/adjustable-tilt-swivel-wall-mount-bracket-black-p-164.html
but it says "Machine screws for mounting to panel are not included" and only includes 4 lag bolts and 4 optional concrete anchors. Now I'm new to LCD Mounts but what are the machine screws for really?
Thanks
No, unfortunately my AOC LC27H060 didn't come with any screws. It's got the standard VESA 100 (4 holes, 4" apart) on the back.
my samsung did not include the screws needed to attach it to the wall mount but the owners manual had the size required and i got them at the hardware store for less then a buck
