e definition of a home theater system? Many may confuse it with having there own cinema set up in their home at a cost of thousands of dollars to set up.

Well, in effect, that's true but a home theater system can simply mean having a tv, dvd player and speakers set up in your own living room. In other words, a home theater system can be whatever you want it to be.

Ideally, having a separate room from the rest of the house where you can go and relax and that doesn't attract a lot of people traffic is the ideal scenario. It's home theater in the true sense of the word.

If you have a limited budget then the first option will suit your needs. This with a large budget to work with should consider the latter and set up a separate home theater environment.

One of the best ways to get a look at seeing home theater in it's natural state is to visit some of the better known outlets who have showrooms dedicated to it. One of these is Best Buy who give you a peak into the future with a dedicated area. While it's not the be all and end all it's a great guide to seeing what you require.

Most of the times you'll just get the basics. A television set up in an area with a dvd player and speakers. But with some imagination, you can take some notes and feed some ideas into your funnel and then sit down and draw up your own plans.

Alternatively, companies such as Best Buy can provide expert advice in the set up phase and can even offer calibration services.

For those who lack technical skills then consider choosing one brand and purchasing a home theater system within that brand. For example, instead of choosing one brand of television and try to mix and match it with another brand dvd player or speaker system, consider choosing the all-in-one system.

Brand names such as Panasonic offer some excellent home theater systems an varying forms with prices up to several thousand dollars. When shopping, many systems will appear without the television but by sticking with the same brand you can make some great savings.
