How many watts does the amp have to have for an 800 watt subwoofer?
I have a 12' 800 watt Pioneer, how many watts does the amp have to have?
You will want to find an amp that is rated the same as your sub's RMS and at stable ohms for your sub. If you have a 800 watt PEAK power, and you have an amp that is pushing 800 watts RMS, then you will be over powering your subs. You'll blow your sub in a heartbeat.
Also, if you have a 800 watt RMS sub that is a 4 Ohm DVC, then you need to find an amp that you can wire accordingly. Remember, wiring a sub down to the right ohms is also going to play a huge role into buying your amp.
For example, if your sub is rated 800W rms at 4 ohms DVC, then you will probably end up wiring your subs down to 2 ohms.
Meaning, you'll need to find an Monoblock 800 watt x 1 @ 2 ohms amplifier.
Here is a wiring diagram to help you out.
